        Tooling & Shaping

The classic designs are tooled into the various sterling disks, striking the punch to create my old west design. I use ball peen hammers, tempered steel punches, an anvil and an old oak tree stump to achieve my desired southwest images.
The punches are stamped into the silver to create the decorative border. I align each patterned punch to get a consistent design. I focus on the proportion and balance of each piece as I strike the punch. Each pattern is individually struck; hence the uniqueness of every set.
Each disc is then hammered into a shallow round cavity in a steel dapping block. I use a smooth round steel punch and a rawhide mallet to create the handmade cufflink's subtle shape. This process of shallow forming gives each piece a dynamic curved dome.
